Xchange nightclub in the Triangle area of Bournemouth has begun major refurbishments.
Following a licensing hearing in January last year, Xchange had faced multiple noise complaints from neighbouring residence.
Bournemouth Borough Council proceeded to carry out noise assessments to determine whether the nightclub had taken preventative measures to control noise disturbances.
Bournemouth residents began to petition to save Xchange having learned of the possible closure as a result of the complaints. Over 2,000 people signed the petition showing their support for Xchange, as one of the two only LGBTQ+ night clubs in the area.
Club owners describe the space as “a pillar of the LGBT community for over 28 years”.
Following the hearing assessment, amendments to address the noise issues have been implemented. The anticipated changes includes introducing a lobby system and noise meter to reduce and monitor any noise nuisance affecting surrounding neighbours. Staff members will be responsible for supervising the smoking area and the traffic in and out of the venue.
“We welcome the extra measures that the owners are now taking and we urge them to continue to be responsible neighbours.” says Councillor Andrew Morgan, member of the licensing board.
When the refurbishments will be complete is yet to be announced following their refurbishing announcement on Facebook late last year.
