New NHS Long Term Plan praised by NHS Dorset

January 8, 2019 by Sub Editor Leave a Comment

After the NHS launched its ambitious new ten-year plan yesterday, NHS Dorset has voiced its support for the project.

The long-term plan suggests that up to 500,000 lives could be saved in the next decade, with greater use of high-tech treatments helping to prevent heart attacks, strokes, and dementia cases.

NHS Dorset Clinical Commission Group Chief Officer Tim Goodson explained why he is behind the scheme.

“We welcome the NHS Long Term Plan as it very much reflects our own local ambitions and will help to overcome the challenges we face including a growing demand for services and staff shortages,” he said.

“We have well documented plans for the future of care in Dorset”

The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hosptials NHS Trust has missed its target of 95%, 85% and 92% for A&E waits less than four hours, Cancer care within 62 days and care within 18 weeks respectively.

“We have well documented plans for the future of care in Dorset,” Mr Goodson added. “We look forward to working with the national team and our local partners over the coming months to shape what the national plan means for local partners.”
