AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe expressed his condolences for Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala’s family after it was confirmed the Argentinian lost his life yesterday.
Sala disappeared over the Channel in a chartered plane, flown by David Ibbotson, on 21 January.
Yesterday Dorset Police confirmed that a body recovered from the wrecked plane was that of the 29-year-old Argentinian.
He was on his way to Cardiff to complete his £15 million move from Nantes before his tragic death.
As a result of his disappearance, Bournemouth’s match against Cardiff last Saturday had a sombre tone.
There were pre-match tributes and emotions running high throughout. The Cherries lost the match 2-1.
Asked about the situation at his press conference earlier today, Howe was remorseful. He exclusively told Buzz: “The whole situation is so, so sad. It’s not the outcome that anybody wanted.
“At least the family get a chance now to know where Emiliano is and his body is. I think that’s a comforting thought.”
Howe is one of many managers to pay tribute to Sala, as the whole footballing world unites to commemorate a striker who was in the prime of his life.
