Wilson elated for ‘good friend’ Stanislas

AFC Bournemouth matchwinner Callum Wilson was thrilled to see Junior Stanislas return to the fold with a goal, as the Cherries edged into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, beating Blackburn Rovers 3-2 last night.

Stanislas opened the scoring with a stunning half-volley on his first appearance for six months, on a dramatic night at the Vitality Stadium.

Wilson told the Bournemouth Rock: “Yeah delighted for him. Obviously, he’s a good friend.

“We came down together at the same time as well and I was disappointed to see him injured but then you see him working hard in the gym.”

The Cherries extended their lead with a Jordon Ibe penalty but were pegged back through second half strikes from Craig Conway and Adam Armstrong from the spot.

With the game destined for penalties, substitute Wilson headed home the decisive goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time to seal the Cherries place in the next round.

The forward can empathise with his teammate having endured large spells on the sidelines, with long term injuries of his own and had been providing Stanislas with advice, whilst he spent time on the treatment table.

Wilson continued: “I’ve been giving him tips as and when I can on what sort of (things) makes you feel better, what doesn’t.

“And he’s got himself looking strong, feeling good and you can see tonight he’s back to his best.

“(It was a) great finish from him and the more minutes he’s racking up, the better for us.”

The Cherries are next in action at home to Crystal Palace on Monday night, kick off at 8pm.
