THE BIG BREXIT VOTE – What can we expect?

January 15, 2019 by Editor Leave a Comment

Today, MPs are going to Westminster to vote on Theresa May’s Brexit plan.

There will certainly be a large divide as who will be voting what in the House of Commons this evening, the Labour party are set to oppose the deal with 255 of their MPs expected to vote against.

The majority of the Conservative party are likely to back their leaders exit plan.

However, the Prime Minister faces a significant rebellion of at least 64 of her own MPs.

With only three independents and a solitary Labour rebel backing her plan, Theresa May faces an uphill battle to get her deal through.

Locally, Bournemouth West MP Conor Burns, Christchurch MP Christopher Chope, Poole MP Sir Robert Syms, and Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Michael Tomlinson are all opposed to the deal.

However, Bournemouth East MP and Defence Minister, Tobias Ellwood, backs the PMs deal and says he will resign if the default position becomes a no deal Brexit, in the event the deal fails.

So what can we expect throughout today?

At 9:30 AM the cabinet met to discuss the “plan B” options in the event that the deal is voted down.

The fifth and final day of debates will commence at 12:50 AM, with Theresa May expected to close the debate this evening at 6:30 PM with a last ditch plea to MPs to back her deal.

At 7:00 PM, voting on the Brexit deal is expected to start. Proceedings will be led by Commons Speaker John Bercow who will decide on which amendments are called and voted on.

A result is expected at 9:00 PM.
