January 16, 2019 by Editor Leave a Comment

Tonight Ex member of parliament Michael Portillo performed a live talk and Q&A from the Lighthouse Arts Centre in Poole.

Mr Portillo, now TV broadcaster shared old political stories as well as anecdotes from his life to a large audience.

One of the hot topics of conversation tonight was Brexit, with most of the audience questions revolving around the topic.

After finding out live during the show that Prime Minister Theresa May narrowly survived a ‘no confidence’ vote, Mr Portillo expressed how he felt the prime minister’s job was a fairly safe bet, “no one wants to be the prime minister until this mess is sorted out” he added.

A member of the audience then went onto ask what Michael Portillo himself thinks will happen in the coming months; “I don’t think there will be a second referendum.. i think we’re going to end up with a pretty ‘Non-Brexit’ sort of Brexit. Very far away from ‘Brexit means Brexit”.

“I thought having a referendum was a very bad idea, but when there was a referendum I felt bound to vote Brexit because I thought that if the ‘remainers’ won they would then say “Ahar” we have settle our European destiny and we must join the Euro” – Michael Portillo on how he voted during the EU referendum.

Upon being asked whether the EU will survive Michael expressed the following; “I think the EU has a lot of problems and Brexit isn’t one of them”.

The retired politician expressed what he thought were the real issues are within the European Union,  “I think the free movement of people is a big problem for the European Union”.

We spoke to two members of the audience to see what they thought of the show.
