Oh Bother: It’s National ‘Winnie the Pooh’ Day

January 18, 2019 by Sub Editor Leave a Comment

It’s national Winnie the Pooh Day, which celebrates the stories of author A.A. Milne and his adorable, honey-loving bear.

Milne’s series of children’s books was originally written for his son, Christopher Robin, containing all of his favourite stuffed toys, as the main characters.

As well as writing ‘Winnie the Pooh’, Milne was also a playwright and poet, however his work in children’s fiction overshadowed this work.

One of Milne’s poems was recently re-discovered in the archives of The Tank Museum in Wareham. Written in November 1918, the poem celebrated ‘The Wonderful Tanks’ and was written as wartime propaganda.
