Howe avoiding excuses as Cherries look to bounce back against Hammers

January 18, 2019 by Editor Leave a Comment

AFC Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe, has rued the recent misfortunes of his side – but admitted “we are the only ones who can change that”.

The Dorset club’s season has taken an unwanted turn for the worse after a torrid run of results saw the Cherries fall to 11 defeats in the past 14 games.

Last weekend’s slender loss at Everton was further compounded by the visitors having two seemingly stonewall penalties waved away by referee Anthony Taylor – before goals from Kurt Zouma and Dominic Calvert-Lewin inflicted the damage for the Merseysiders.

In the wake of defeat at Goodison Park, Howe admitted his side had been on the wrong end of crucial decisions from officials.

But in his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Premier League clash with West Ham, Howe told Buzz that the responsibility lay firmly with his side to reverse their poor run of form:

“I don’t think you can prepare for it at all. I don’t want to make excuses, I’ve never been that kind of manager. But we’ve been on the wrong end of some decisions, we’ve had no luck. Fortune, if there is any, has gone against us and it’s been that way for a number of weeks.

“But we are the only ones who can change that. We had maybe the rub of the green the other way early this season, where we were getting the breaks and things were going our way.

“Now we’re in this moment, we’ve got to have the strength of character to go through that and know that the sun will shine again. We’re looking forward to when it does.”
