A talented Poole artist, will donate all of the money raised from her most recent art exhibition to Prostate Cancer UK to commemorate her husband who she lost to the disease ten years ago.
‘Barbara Evans – A life in Art’ was an exhibition hosted by ‘The Gallery Upstairs’ at Upton Country Park. The exhibition explored Mrs Evans life journey through her art and shows some of the emotions and events that she has experienced.
The exhibition lasted for nine days and concluded with an action of all remaining unsold artwork.
Although an exact figure is yet to be calculated with a fundraiser still live on Facebook and payments still being made, Barbara disclosed that the current total stands at around an impressive £3500.
With Prostate cancer now the third biggest cancer killer in the UK, the money raised from the exhibition will be extremely beneficial to the charity. James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK told ‘Painters Online’ the charity is extremely grateful for Barbara’s generous gesture.
The display boasted a range of different mediums such as pencil sketches, landscape painting and life drawings, all for sale and open to the general public.
Barbara spoke about why she has chosen to do this and how her journey into art began.
“I got back into art because I had cancer and I needed something to focus on.”
“Bill died of prostate cancer, and that will be 10 years ago this year, and I’m 80 this year.
“I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be able to keep doing and enjoying what I’m doing so I thought well I’m going to go out with a bang! Having done this is something that I can hold onto”.
Although the exhibition was a great success in raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, the exhibition was also a very beneficial and enjoyable experience for Barbara as she said:
“Because I live on my own now in find myself going more into my shell, so this has been good because it’s given me the opportunity to get to and talk to people and open up to people, it’s almost been therapeutic in a way”.
