Libraries across the United Kingdom are facing closure due to council cuts being made. Despite these adjustments, there have been no closures throughout Poole libraries. According, to Library assistant Jacqui, 55, online book services and kindles are factors as to why people aren’t loaning books from the library anymore.

Canford Cliffs Library is located on Western Road, has managed to remain open and maintain its service despite facing budget cuts.                                                                                                                                                                   Librarian Jacqui, said: “We noticed the number of books being taken out after Christmases went down because lots of people got Kindles and would download books.” After noticing a trend in audiobook downloads, Canford Cliffs library has introduced audiobook downloads to keep up with trends so that it encourages the local people to continue to use the library facilities.                                                                                                                                                               The librarian says that they “embrace the technology” at Canford Cliffs and she added: “People can come in and have options now, they can pick an ebook or a hardcopy.”

According to livehere.co.uk Canford Cliffs has an older age demographic, meaning Canford Cliffs’ population is older than the average.                                                                                                                                                                      Librarian worker Jaquie, said: “We’ve moved with the times but a lot of people, especially of the age group that comes in here, prefer print books.” She also added: “They have options to read large print or have a book on a CD even if their eyesight is failing them.”                                                                                                                                      Canford Cliff’ library has a long list of activities that go on throughout the year, it offers Rhyme time for baby and mothers, it is home to the neighbourhood watch meetings and knit and natter.                                                                       The Librarian said: “The library is also a social hub and it brings people together through activities.”                           On Tuesday 5th March there will be a garden design meeting at the Library.
